Somatic movement education focuses on the internal, proprioceptive experience of movement. Sessions consist of embodied meditation - bringing into focus awareness how one's body is feeling, facilitated through breath practices and visual anatomical guidance.
What does a session include and cover?
Sessions often focus on one physical element eg - cellular breath, fluid, bone, skin, heart, organs or facia. Music can be played and clients are invited to move/dance in a non-stylised way - comfortable to them. At the end of a session clients are invited to draw, write and share their experience.
Some outstanding benefits of somatic practice are -
- Assists deep relaxation and rest
- Soothes the nervous system (making us aware if we are in fight or flight so we can find a more comfortable way of being in our body)
- Helps one feel connected, integrated and present - enhances one's ability to focus
- Helps us develop comfortable boundaries in our daily life (what's working for me, what's not, this is making me feel stressed how can I manage this in a way that feels more easeful)
